The #1 Benefit of Cloth Diapers~ Comfort:

Here was the big seller of cloth diapers for my very doubtful husband: My newborn would scream and fuss during diaper changes, it was so bad that we almost didn’t want to change him at all! His little bum was bright red all the time, no matter what brand of disposables we used. As soon as I made the switch to cloth diapers, diaper change time became more enjoyable . . . well to the ears anyway . . . He immediately began smiling and enjoying diaper change time. He has not had diaper rash since, and seems much more comfortable. My husband has stopped his diaper time complaining too! That is worth more than anything else in my opinion!

When I made the switch from disposables, my oldest son was still in diapers and was old enough to tell the difference in his new cloth diapers and the old plastic disposables. He loved the cloth diapers and trainers! He would even ask me for them. It was more comfortable for him, he liked the colors and designs, and he never had diaper rash again!

The Cost of Cloth Diapering a Child:

There are a number of benefits to using cloth diapers; the number one benefit of cloth diapering for me personally as a stay at home mom was the cost.  Cloth diapers cost significantly less than disposables. On average, the cost of cloth diapers is one third that of disposables. On average, it will cost ~$3,000 to diaper one child in disposable diapers for three to three and a half years! If you use cloth diapers for your child, the cost would be between only $300-700! But the more children you have, the more you save. . . cloth diapers can be reused for multiple children! In addition, many brands of cloth diapers, if cared for, can be resold when you are done with them. (I offer a trade-in / exchange program.) It doesn’t get any cheaper then that! After two kids, you have pretty much diapered your family for free! Once you try these cloth diapers, you will be convinced that this is the right move for your family!

The Look of Cloth Diapers:

Ok, so no form of diapering is actually fun, but at least with cloth diapers, there is an opportunity to have some fun with colors and designs. There are many times that I will color coordinate clothes and cloth diapers. . . my sons wear thier cloth diapers instead of shorts quite often! Some of the designs offered on cloth diapers are just too cute to cover up! Why be stuck with plain white? There are too many cute choices in cloth diapers out there!

The Environment

By cloth diapering, you child is being brought into the world without destroying it. Studies show that one baby can use enough disposable diapers to cause almost 2 Tons of landfill waste (both human and paper)! With cloth diapers, there is no waste. The human waste is flushed, and there is no paper waste to dispose of.

Many cloth diapers can be re-used hundreds of times before needing replaced, and then can be used as rags for household chores. (Inserts make GREAT car washing rags, and clean up spills and messes very quickly!)

Many of these cloth diaper items are made with organic products as well.

Cloth diapers use less natural resources in the making and washing, then disposables. The environmental impact of producing and disposing of disposables is far greater and more destructive than any amount of water that a cloth diaper may use. On average, each load of diapers washed is equivalent to flushing the toilet 3 - 5 times.

Our family of 4 now only throws away 1-2 bags of trash a week. Between recycling, cloth diapering, reusuable mama products, composting and reusing, we are really making a difference! We encourage you to do the same!
